My first day in NYJC--Luo Wanyi

Nanyang Junior college has very beautiful campus. And there I met my buddy Liu Xiaoying, a lovely and considerate girl. I was going to spent my next seven days in JC with my buddy.

At the very beginning of the day, all the students and tutors assembled in the square, which is in the centre of NYJC.

Then I attended English Literature with my buddy. Since it was the first class of this new recently-formed class. We were told to pick one card and answer the question on it. In order to get everyone know better of each other, the self-introduction section began. All student in the class introduced themselves creatively and thoroughly.

After that, I went to general paper class. It is a subject which is quite similar to current affair or something like philosophy. Lady Ann, the tutor of general paper, gave us some questions and asked students to answer by turns.

It was a good day for I had experienced something I've never been through.

My dear new budy.

Hi, my new budy!
Dr Pang found me a new budy for my original budy Xuelian was sick. At the very beginning, I felt a little bit anxious for that shortened my time with one budy, I was afraid wether my new budy would treat me as good friends like she treated Hongting and Tongtong who were known by her at the first day.
However, being companied by Jiawen, my new budy, for two days, I felt so grateful to her. She is a really lovely and outgoing girl. I was quite short in finding new topics when speaking with newly met person while she did not mind and introduced me to everybody she met. Jiawen told me she was born in Dalian, Liaoning for both of her parents were Chinese. However, she came to Singapore since she was 7, which made her having the character of Singaporean. Besides, she told me she used to work in shops, gaining money by herself and experienced different attitudes among Singaporeans towards Chinese- what kind of habits was considered rude and what was considered polite. It was better for us to behave politely according to Singaporean manners for we gonna spend our time in Singapore and integrate Singapore.  Jiawen has both the  Chinese style connotation and Singaporean style nature and grace. I like her very much.

What is more, in the same class, Jiawen and I spent a great time with Meixuan, Hongting, Peiyu and Tongtong.  All of us followed each other's step and never fell behind. It seemed we had known each other for many years. Haha....Whatever, I love this close friendship.

However, I felt sorry to the boys in Jiawen's class. For I am quite shy and say little words when facing people who I met for the first time, especially the opposite gender,  it looked like  I was a cold girl. One boy poorly asked if he obstructed the communication between my budy and me, but I felt surprised because I never had that thought... That was something I really need to change.

Everyday in JC is a good lesson for life!
Thank you~ my dear new budy for offering me a good lesson.

My life in NYJC

Four wonderful days have passed. With the help of my buddy and her kind friends, I get to know more about NYJC and the lives of common Singaporean students.
What impressed me a lot is the Chinese lessons here. The teachers are quite knowledgeable and the class contents are very colorful and interesting. There are two types of Chinese lessons. Type one is focusing on the ancient Chinese poems. The other one which concentrates on writting essays and understanding classical Chinese writing is more advaned and harder.
After the class, I searches in the Internet and found out that Nanyang JC is famous and popular for its special and professional Chinesen classes. The teachers even compiled their own textbooks to help their students improve.
(My buddy and I)
My buddy's dream is becoming a Chinese teacher. I am sure that with the help of great teachers and her own efforts, her goal will be finally achieved.

First taste of NYJC

Today is the third day of my JC experience in NYJC. I have lived a happy and meaning life in NYJC these days. I have a lot experiences to share.

When I first met my buddy, Marc, I found him a little bit shy. He talks less, but he is really friendly to me. He always considers a lot for me. He wants to make my life in NYJC comfortable and interesting. I'm very grateful of him and we become very good friends. Now, he talks more and more with me and he introduces me to his class. I feel really good being with them. Here is a picture of my buddy and I.

The way we study in NYJC is also very interesting. We have lectures and tutorials in NYJC, just like the study in NTU. That is quite different from the study in China. We seldom have lectures at grade 10 to 12. What is more interesting is the course economy. We don't have this kind of course in China so economy is really fresh to me. We studied the labor, GDP and investment and that's cool! Some other courses such as maths and geography seem less attractive because I have already studied the knowledge in China.

Today, our sm2 scholars and NYJC's Chinese CCA had a good time together. We did presentations to introduce some famous TV programs in Singapore and China. We all learned a lot from each other and this is really a meaningful experience. We also had a Q&A session and we talked a lot. After that, we had pizzas together and I fell it's really delicious.

The JC experience is still continuing, and I think I can have more and more interesting experiences...

My second&third day at NYJC

My second day at NYJC

Today I came to school by bus with complaint. So early, so tired! But is could not reduce my interest of exploring NYJC. Also, I immersed in the beautiful dawn.

We had experiment and Chinese course.
The experiment was just like what we had in China. And I enjoyed with them.

Besides, we had Chinese literature. I roughly knew the A-level exam about Chinese. They had to finish paper1 and paper2, which included 3 comprehension essays and one essay writing respectively. And my buddy needed to read some novels and Chinese poetry, and some of them might not be easy for me.
Having fun in NYJC, enjoy the different education system.

My third day at NYJC

I came to school by myself, so I was really filled with energy.

During the break, I had a delicious meal called 蛋包饭。 And these were my buddy(the last ) and my friends I made in NYJC. We had the lunch together.
We had an academic communication with LEG, the Chinese CCA in NYJC. And the committee of LEG shared two Singapore TV program with us. We also shared several brilliant or influenced TV show with them. They made me know more about Singaporean TV show, since I seldom watched TV in Singapore.

JC Journal--- Part 2

Let me continue to write my JC journal. Here is part 2.

Netball is not only a new word, but also a kind of new sport for me. It is similar to basketball. Due to my buddy's CCA class is netball,I had opportunity to feel it. In my opinion, netball is interesting. I saw my buddy play netball with her classmates on the playground. She ran from left to right, and then from right to left to get the ball. And shoot it into the hoop. There were about 20 girls playing in front of me. They seemed so happy and always were fulled with energy. Just like I play badminton with my friends, they enjoyed themselves though they were tired. However, I forgot to take photos of them to record such a wonderful moment.

Today there was a sharing meeting about entertainment programmes held by Chinese Club in NYJC. We introduced Chinese entertainment programmes to them. In return, they made a briefing about Singaporean entertainment programmes to us. Due to the meeting, I got something about Singaporean TV programmes, such as 稀游记,美差事苦差事, and some Singapore customs. I think it is a very good sharing meeting for NY students and us. It is good for us to learn about other culture and life. Here is a photo of the meeting.

Today my buddy told me a rule in NYJC. If one is late for classes, there will be punishments for the person. That is reform through labour, such as clean floors, clean toilets. Without doubt, I was suprised by the rule. As a result, I took my lunch as fast as I can to ensure my buddy gets to classroom in time.

My first day at NYJC

Today is my second day at NYJC. But I just recorded what happened yesterday.

Since we had to share the bus with Serangoon JC, we arrived the school much earlier than the students and teachers. We just sat down outside of one closed cafe. Everything was quiet, we enjoyed ourselves. When the sky was brighter and brighter, there were more and more students and stuffs walking around.

After the flag-raising ceremony, the coordinator, Mr.Pang, introduced the buddies to us respectively. And then everyone followed his or her own buddy and had classes together.
My buddy was Mei Xuan, she was a quiet girl. At first, I am nervous that she would snub me. However, she was very nice and patient.

I got the timetable from her. I found that it was different from that in China. They chose their own courses and school officers arranged them into different classes just like what we would do in the near future in NTU as a Year 1 student.

They also had lectures and tutorials, also different from Chinese style. I realized the slight difference between high school and junior college.

This was my first day at NYJC, tired but enjoyable. Thanks to my lovely buddy.

                                                       Li Hong Ting

Life is full of surprise.

Watching the photos on the screen, my experience in Nanyang Junior College today come into my mind insurgently.
25 February, the most tired but also the most fabulous day in my stay in Singapore began from an early morning.
With the moon hanging on the sky, we stepped on our way to NYJC. Wearing the fresh blue uniform of NYJC, I feel a great excitement of experiencing new in my heart so that I could not fall asleep though I was sleepy at that moment. I expect to join NYJC and expect to meet my buddy!

Waiting on the edge of my chair for one and a half hour, we were introduced and welcomed by the whole school during the flag-rising ceremony. I even made a small speech to the whole school, which made me really anxious but  excited. After that, we were assigned to our buddies. Unfortunately, my buddy was just ill and could not come to school, therefore, our teacher-in-charge told me to join Peng Yaxin, Malan and Guo Dongshan.

Then, a vivid Junior college day kicked off!

Math, Economics, PW are all more practical subjects than what we study in China. The subjects are so specific that students could learn quite a lot of details about putting it into practice. However, the subject impressed me the most was PE class.
The PE teacher is quite interesting from his appereance to his speaking style. He told a lot of jokes that make students in his class feel delightful. Moreover, his white long beard was tied on on side of his head, which was really cute and cool!!! What's more, I have never expected that Singaporean student needed to run 1600 meters as  warm-up activity. That was tired for us scholars but normal for citizens, which gave me the direct impression of the strong physical conditions of Singaporean. Our budies told us that they began to run 1600 meters as physical examination in Primary school and 2400 meters in Secondary school. However, ours along all life time was 800 meters.

During my first day visiting, what I observed as the most shocking part was not the educational difference but the difference between our budies and us. I found that though we are quite in the same age, Singaporean youngsters had a maturer mind. They know what they would like to do in the future, what they should do at this moment, what they should give up and what they should strive for. They have a clear blueprint for their future and they are even clear about what they have done wrongly. They tried their best to follow the rules and respect their teachers. And after class, they even found themselves an extra teacher for improving spending a large amount of money on education. Living in the quick and nervous society, they make themselves to grow quick.
I admire them so much and wish to learn from them.

JC Journal---Part 1

There are some points I really want to share with others after the two days' JC life.
First of all, I have to say that my buddy is a very nice girl. Her name is Teo Song en and she is at J1. She is outgoing and likes to talk with me, even other SM2 students. She loves studying, especially Chinese. She also like doing sports and her CCA class is netball. I look forward to feel netball tomorrow because she has CCA class tomorrow. Here is the photo of us.
Secondly, there is a frag-raising ceremony on every Monday morning and all the people in JC sing the national anthem. It is the same between JC and Chinese high schools. However, besides national anthem, they also sing school song after national anthem. It is different from my high school. What is more, they sing national anthem in a meeting hall everyday morning. Because it is a Malay song, I cannot understand. I decided to learn about it more on internet later. Here is the meeting hall.

Thirdly, I got my timetable for this week from my Song en. I was surprised that their classes are not regular just like our classes in NTU. Yesterday Song en had almost all-day classes and today she had only three-hour classes. It is different from Chinese high school. In China, almost every student has all-day classes every day and the classes are the same between students in the same class. As a result, we had much time to talk about JC and Singapore in the free time. Here is my timetable.
Without doubt, it is a wonderful experience for me.

NYJC: Different from my imagination---GUO DONGSHAN

NYJC:Different from my imagination
GUO DONGSHAN

I have to admmit that NYJC is quite different from my imagination. At the first look, it gave me a surprise that the campus is large and beautiful. Sooner I met my buddy, she is a lovely and lively girl majoring in liberal arts including economics, geography and Chinese. Look at our photo:

One thing I found out that is different from Chinese school is their course setting. Students do not have to learn all subjects since the third grade in middle school, and now they can only choose four subjects to learn, so Singaporen students are quite clear about what they are going to do in the future.
In addition, I thought they may be more relaxed than Chinese students. Actually, since they only have one and half years to prepare for "A" Level examination, they are under a large stress.
This is how NYJC looks like from outside:

My First Day in NYJC

After spending a whole day in Nanyang Junior College, I have to say I enjoyed mysely quite a lot.
I was warmly welcomed by my buddy. My buddy is a lovely and outgoing girl. She first introduced herself and the simple information of NYJC.  During our communication, I found that she was skillful in both Chinese and English. And I believe I can be more familiar with Singaporean's accents with her help.
When we had free talk with each other, we showed the situations of education systems, food, weather, sceneries and customs in our own countries. And surprisely, we realized many differences from the comparation. For example, the junior college lessons concentrate on training study abilities and the school life is very relaxing. However, in China, teachers like to give students many exercises to help them understand the knowledge. Also, students in Singapore have opportunities to decide their subjects, but Chinese students need to learn various knowledge to obtain a thorough comprehension.
The JC experience is really stimulating and I am looking forward to the following days!

               My First day at NYJC

Today is my first day at NYJC and I am really happy.
The things that impressed me most were my buddy's enthusiasm, her smile, and her friends' kindness.
For the first time I met her, we were like friends that had known each other for a long time. She warmly greeted me and held my hand. Then naturally, we became good friends. I felt comfortable to stay together with her, attend the classes and share her lecture notes. Besides, when we were moving from one classroom to another, I used to ask her something about Singapore, she always answered me patiently. She is so kind and easy going that she has lots of friends. We together had lessons, chatted, had lunch. They kindly spoke Chinese with me when I couldn't understand. When I was leaving, my buddy kindly sent me to the MRT station by herself. On the way, she told me that she wished I could have a happy time at NYJC. I think I surely will have a good time since I have such a good buddy.
I believe the following days will be happy as well.

First day at NYJC

Today is our first day at NYJC.
We got up early and sat next to the square for a long time watching students here walking around.
I keep guessing if this girl is my body or will I be in the same class as that student.
After the flag-raising ceremony, I finally got to meet my body. Her name is Peiyu with long hair and a sweet smile. She brought her friend Jiawen, a very cute girl.
At first, we acted very politely, while after the day, we became closed enough to tell jokings and laugh a lot together.
I think it is really amazing that people from different countries with different lifestyles can become friends so easily.
We talked a lot during the lunch and shared our thoughts about study, Singapore and my hometown.
In the afternoon, we had a PE class and I run 16oo meters. It is not easy for me since I haven't run so far for almost 2 years.
When I went back to LL, I'm really tired but very happy and excited about the next few days.
