Sunday Afternoon

Last Sunday, we held an activity for our buddies—cooking them a meal.
The leaders of NYJC bought some materials from vivo city and came back at 2 PM. After called some of us together, we began to cook. Buddies would came in an hour, so time was limited,we needed to work together. Some of us washed vegetables, some cooked meat for noodles with soybean paste, some mixed the powder with water to prepare for dumpling wrapper, some mixed meat with Chinese cabbage to make stuffing, etc. After finishing all these preparing job,we need to fill the stuffing into the dumpling wrapper. I was in charge of  using a rolling pole to roll the dough into smallthin and round pieces so that they will be easy to cook. It was a long and complex way to make dumplings. What's more, it was the first time for most of us to make dumplings by ourselves, so we took a long time. We have't finished when our buddies arrived. So they came to help us. We enjoyed ourselves to work together. And finally, dumplings was ready and we let them to enjoy the dumplings made by ourselves.

Dumplings carry a very special meaning for Chinese people. When Chinese people have guests for dinner, we prepare dumplings to warmly welcome our guests.
It was a really memorable day.

Having dinner at canteen, my buddy (left) and I(right)

The tasty omelette rice

We spent a lot of time in the canteen. I wanted to try every kind of food so I have different dinner every day. The omelette rice is my favorite. Inside of the omelette, the fried rice smells attractively.

A journey to Fort Canning Mountain plus my buddies.

Dearest Jiawen and Xuelian,

Happy to write my diary like a letter for you!
Miss you so much!

Here I would like to express my heartfelt attitude to you for companying me until the end of my stay in NYJC.

I really feel great fortunate to have both of you as my buddies. You did a lot for me, most special of which that could always be in my memory is the journey to Fort Canning Mountain

At the beginning of our journey, Jiawen send me a small gift.
Jiawen, I really appreciate your delicate hand-made gift  - the little card with your wishes and my name. You say that people will encounter many friends in their whole life, however, few of them could be remembered. But you told me that you would always remember Hongting, Tongtong and me.
Dear girl, we would always remember you too!

Then, time comes to the Fort Canning Moutain.
Though it was a pity that Jiawen was not in the same group as I was, spending time with Xuelian was as well a great momery there.
School appointed a wondeful guide for us. Do you remember him, Xuelian? The happy grandpa in red.Could you remember he told us he was 85 yet we thought he was 58? Haha...that was a sweet misunderstanding, wasn't it?

After that, during our journey, our happy grandpa introduce us many herbs whose died body actually were used in the daily life but when it came to their living form, we could not recognise. One special thing is the nutmeg. Remember what surprise our guide gave us? Yes, he brought us a package of nutmeg for experiencing the herb more vivid ! I liked the taste of nutmeg, however, unfortunately, my stomach stopped me from trying more pieces of nutmeg. Whatever, our guide really taught us a lot in the Fort Canning Mountain. I appreciated him very much.

When lunch time was around, Dr.Pang is so nice that he offered each pair of us S$ 15 for having lunch. Dear xuelian, you introduced me the eating habits in Singapore and your favorite food. I could still remeber the ice cacang! Also, I still do not understand what it sounds like cachang but without an "h" in it! English and Malaysian are confused, aren't they?

Dear friends,  time spending with you seems too short, and I am looking forward to our next dinner together, next next lunch together, and next next next lunch .......HAHA.....

Wish you good health and happiness!

Regards,
Dong Yibing

Beautiful memories in NYJC

Though we stayed only one week in NYJC, I’m very sad to say goodbye to my friends. We attended their classes such as Math, Chines, Economy, Project Work, PE and so on. We tried all the delicious food in their canteen such as Pattaya and hot dog. We joined their meeting though I don’t know how to sing the national anthem of Singapore. We visited Fort Canning and learned some Singapore history. I will keep the beautiful memories in my heart and I hope we can get more opportunities like this.

Hope my buddy like the hand-making bear~ It's the first time to for me to do such a complicated work!!

Friendship!!!

One of the best things in NYJC is making so many good friends. My dearest buddy is the first friend I have ever met in Singapore. I feel so happy about it because I want to make a local friend for a long time. We become very good friends in one week time. We go classes, go canteen, do everything together. It pretty good to share all the things to each other. She told me many things in Singapore, during one week, not only my Singlish went up a step, I knew more about the country I’m living in, from the basic lifestyles, governmental new policy to delicious food, interesting jokes, I like Singapore and my Singapore friends more after being in JC. I also share many things in China, including the differences and my feelings about Singapore and China, I hope she can also enjoy my sharing.
I also make some friends in my buddy’s class. There are three scholars in my class, so I get familiar with their buddies as well. They are all very cute girls and friendly, I like being with them. I really admire them because they can speak both Chinese and English very good. In China, if you can control Chinese and English well, it could be a precious thing, however, there is so common for them can use two languages well in Singapore. I think I have to work harder to my English!
I went to my buddy’s home this Sunday. Her home is so big and nice, we ate delicious noodles served with such sauce (I don’t know whether the spelling is correct or not). I like it very much!!!
Friendship is such a good thing! Thank you all, with love.

Our trip to Fort Canning Park

On saturday, I went to a trip with my buddy Xiaoying to do a project work.

Our destination is Fort Canning Park.

First, we went to Fort Canning Park, which was originally constructed in 1926 as British army barracks. And I knew that this stately building was used by the singapore armed forces before being converted into squash courts and offices in the 1970s.

Then, we took a look at James Brooke Napier memorial at Fort Canning Green. Went along the path, there was a spice garden, lots of unknown spice there(for me).

After that, we also went to Keramat Iskandar Shah, archaeological dig and raffles terrace. Although it is tiring for us to walk so long, it really extends my vision.

My second day in NYJC

It is my second day in NYJC. I got up early and went to school. After I met my buddy. We went to the school auditorium to listen to a series of presentations. One is about current affairs in singapore, the other is about how to manage yourselves. I had learn a lot from these speeches.

Then we had English literature, economics and chinese literature. I was surprised that students who attend the chinese literature class have quite high level in Chinese. They had already touched ancient chinese poems and even some short ancient articles.

And as for economics class. I have never attended such class before hence everything covered in the class seemed to be fresh to me. It is interesting.

I also took the PE class. As required, I ran 1200 meters. Although it is quite tiring, I had a lot fun there.

Great experience in NYJC

I don’t know how to express my feelings of one week NYJC experience. That’s such a fantastic trip for us to go to Junior College to get familiar with local students’ life and the education system in Singapore. When we go to university, we have to make friends with many new friends and most of them will be Singaporeans. In my opinion, to understand their experience is the best way to make friends, so I’m really appreciate for having this chance to go to NYJC.
didn't realize life in JC is so different from Senior High School in China. They have to go to different classrooms to take different class just like what we do in NTU, but in China, we can stay in the same classroom, have our own sits, we just need to wait teachers to come. In addition, Chinese students have to take every compulsory subject to prepare for Gaokao. We have to take much pressures because no matter the subject we are interesting or not, we must try our best to get good grades. In contrast, Singaporeans can choose subjects they like. However, their classes are really fast and have to pay more efforts after classes. I have no idea which education system is better because they both have some advantages and disadvantages. So just enjoy ourselves in our study and life.

A Happy Meal Chen Ningshuang

After the trip to Fort Canning Park, NYJC also organized us to have a meal with our buddies. During this meal, we got to know each other better and took many pictures. Four of us SM2 students, with their buddies, went to Ajisen Ramen to have the meal together.
The noodles were cooked for a long time. During the waiting time, we talked a lot. From the conversation, I realized that Singaporean students also had many things in common as Chinese students. For example, we all enjoyed Chinese TV plays, such as Legend of Concubine Zhen Huan (甄嬛传) and The Legendary Swordsman (笑傲江湖). Another example is that some of the local students even can play mahjong, an interesting game played in China, especially in Chongqing and Sichuan.
After a long talk, the noodles came, and it was delicious! I really treasure the friendships I have gained, and I hope they will last long.
To thank my buddy and help her to remember me, I made I gift for her. I am a person who likes singing very much. As a result, I record a CD for her, and the cover of the CD was made by myself. I think she will like this gift.

A trip to Fort Canning Park Chen Ningshuang

In Saturday, NYJC organized us to visit Fort Canning Park, which is an interesting experience to me. Although I have been in Singapore for almost half a year, I went to quite few famous places in Singapore. As a result, this trip is meaningful to me.
We gathered in NYJC a little earlier than we did in weekdays, about eight o'clock. Then we took the bus to Fort Canning Park. During the bus trip, my local friends and I talked happily, and all of us are expected to this trip. All of us are divided into about ten groups, and each group has a guide to introduce the scenery spot to us. The guide of our group is an interesting lady who speaks mandarin really well.

Then we visited the ingredient garden. Our guide introduced many kinds of plants to us which are essential ingredient in our food. She even made us to smell the plants, and we got a better understanding of the ingredients.
After that we visited some ancient constructions, including a gate tower, a tunnel, the Changi tree and so on.
We enjoyed ourselves in Fort Canning Park until about half past eleven. Students in NYJC and SM2 students were happy there. For myself, I really had a great time.

My JC Experience Chen Ningshuang

I really enjoy my life in Nanyang Junior College in the past one week. This experience will last forever in my life because it is my last experience in high school. Although things are different in junior colleges in Singapore from China, it is still great fun.
My buddy is a rather shy girl; however, she helped me to know NYJC better. I followed her to take every class she took, including PE, economics, math, chemistry, general paper, and most interesting of all, CHINESE! As a science student, I have not taken economics classes in China, which I think, is a pity in my life, because I am really interested in it. With the experience in NYJC, I confirmed my feeling that economics is really a brilliant subject. From my buddy I know that every student in junior college, no matter a science student or an art student, will take economics classes, which I think will benefit their future life. As for PE class, I have to say that Singaporean has a strong body. Back in China we just run a maximum eight-hundred-meter test. However, in Singapore, 3k or 4k is common.
I think I will also treasure my university life thanks to the JC immersion.

The trip to Fort Canning Park

Thanks to the NYJC's arrangement, my buddy and I spent a happy day in Fort Canning Park.

Fort Canning Park is not only a beautiful scenery spot but also a historical site. My buddy went there to gather some materials so that she could finish her homework better. And I was really interested to this travel because I was always desiring to know more about some history information of Singapore.
We visited the Archaeological Dig and Exhibition Area, the Spice Garden, the Keramat Iskandar Shah and the Raffles House. The Spice Garden was quite impressive. The enthusiastic guide introduced many special plants to us. Sometimes, I did not get the complete point, so my buddy helped me translate a little and describes them for me. With her help, I knew many new things.
After this trip, there will be few chances for us to enjoy ourselves together. However, I hope we can keep in touch and I sincerely invited my buddy to travel to my hometown!

My Life In NYJC

At the beginning of this activity, in fact, I'm a little afraid.     I think that I have spent an enjoyable time in NYJC. Although it is only a one week’s experience, it still brought the great happiness to me!
I feel very happy that my buddy is Cindy. Cindy is a very nice girl. She is very humorous, optimistic, warm-hearted and easy-going. She helped me make many new friends in NYJC. Her friends and she bring the endless happiness to me, and we spent a very beautiful time in NYJC. I will enshrine the beautiful memory of JC experience forever and make it to be the valuable wealth of my life.
